Books I'm Taking to College!

Image
Hi, friends! We have already come to the end of summer (well, for school anyway), and it is time to move back to college! I am actually moving back tomorrow, so I am trying to soak up every last bit of summer relaxation I can today while I'm home. I can't believe that is already time to move back and start my senior year! *insert terrified but excited gif here* This year I am trying something a little bit different than I have in years past. Usually, I use like half of my desk shelf space for my books at school, but this is just not very feasible as sad as that is. I really need the space for textbooks, notebooks, and miscellaneous stuff in my room! So, instead, I have decided to only take 4 physical books with me this year. To be fair, my home is only 35ish minutes away from my school, so it isn't very hard for me to trade out books as I read them. My plan is to utilize my Scribd subscription more this year. I don't know why I have never thought to do this but l...

Winter TBR

Image
Winter is upon us, so you know what that means! It's time to break out the blankets and hot tea, and snuggle up in bed reading a good book all day 😍 This winter I hope to read: 1) Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor  I am currently reading this book and just got to part 3, or page 185. I am really enjoying this one, and my goal is to finish it before the start of 2018! Synopsis:  The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around—and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever. What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exac...

Fall Wrap Up

Image
Hi guys! I'm so sorry that I'm the worst and this is so late! School and finals always consume me, and i can't ever seem to make time for things I actually want to do. I hope to get better about that in the new year, but for now here is my super late fall wrap up! This season I: Read 3 books  Read a total of 1,150 pages  Had one 5 star book  Overall I thought this was a pretty good season for reading considering I was in school the whole time. I had two books that I really enjoyed, so I would consider this season a success!  The books I read this season were:  1. Cinder by Marissa Meyer  Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and bla...

Mini Haul!

Image
I have been trying so hard to save my money and make it last all summer, so I told myself I would only buy things that I needed or just couldn't live without. Then I got coupons to Barnes and Noble. No spend? What does that mean? So needless to say, I had to go and use my coupons on some books I've been eyeing for a while.       I had been wanting Everything Everything for a few months now, looking at it every time I was at Barnes and Noble but never actually picking it up. But with the movie coming out in a couple of days and having a 20% off coupon, I figured it was finally time that I picked up this book.       I had to get Always and Forever, Lara Jean because I absolutely loved the first two books in the series, and I was SO excited when I heard that Jenny Han had decided to make the duology a trilogy! I also had told myself if I finished well in school this semester I was allowed to buy myself this book, so I decid...

May TBR

Image
Hello readers! I'm a tad bit late with this TBR, but I just got back home from college last week so I'm still getting into the swing of things again. This month I am hoping to get a few books knocked out as I will actually have time and I am behind on my Goodreads challenge for the year! These may not be the only books I read this month if I really get crazy, but for now I am going to give myself a realistic goal to start off the summer. Here are the books I'm hoping to read in May: 1) City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare           This is the fifth book in the Mortal Instruments series which I feel like I've been reading for FOREVER. Not because I am not enjoying them, they are just really big books and I tend to take a break from the series and read another stand alone book in between each book in the series. Cassandra Clare packs so much action and suspense into each novel that I am worn out by the end and I need to take a break to get myself ready fo...

Salt to the Sea Review

Image
Hello readers! I'm sorry I randomly fell off the Earth for a few months. I did exactly what I was afraid I would do and got completely caught up in college and 1) had barely any time to read and 2) didn't have time to blog. But I am finally back home and am ready to jump back into reading and my blog! I just finished Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys, and LOVED it. Andddd, it's a signed copy which just makes it all the better!! Here are the details: Author: Ruta Sepetys Title: Salt to the Sea  Publisher: Philomel Books Pages: 400 Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆   Salt to the Sea is a novel following four teens/young adults in World War II who are all trying to evacuate Germany to flee from the Russians. Each of them has a secret of some kind, and they must carry those secrets with them as they make their way across Germany to reach the Baltic Sea to hopefully board an evacuation ship. Ruta Sepetys shines a light on a piece of history that most people do not kn...

2017 Bookish Resolutions

Hello everyone! This post is going up a little later than I intended, but I've been feeling a little under the weather this week so I haven't really felt like blogging. But today I'm feeling a bit better, so I thought I would share with you some goals that I have for myself this year 😊 1) Goodreads goal: 20 books This one is just the generic Goodreads goal to start off my resolutions for the year. I have set my goal a little higher this year and challenged myself to 20 books. This doesn't seem like a whole lot, but I don't think I've ever read 20 books in one year, so I thought I would try to push myself with this goal as it goes a long with some of my other resolutions as well. 2. Be a more consistent reader As I mentioned in my  Book Blog Newbie Tag  post, I am kind of a cycle reader, so I will go through periods of time where I read like crazy and then don't read at all for a couple months. This year I really hope to change this and become more co...

January TBR

Image
Hello readers and Happy New Year! I can't believe 2017 is already here! It seems so weird to be in 2017 for me because 2016 is the year I graduated high school, and I never really thought past life in 2016. That might seem odd, but all though school it seemed as though 2016 was the infamous year that would never actually get here, but now it has come and gone so fast. 2016 was the year that I graduated high school and completed my first semester of college, it was such a stressful but awesome year of life for me. I can only hope that 2017 will be as awesome. To start off this year I have a few books I hope to read. I don't know if I'll actually read all these because 1) I'll be back at college, so I don't know how much reading time I'll have, and 2) I'm a really moody reader so who knows if I'll feel like reading some of these books when I get there. But I'm going to try and make a TBR as a kind of goal for myself to get these books read in a timel...

December Wrap Up

Image
Hello readers! The end of December is already here which is so crazy because it doesn't seem like it's been a whole month already! It is also a little unwelcomed by me because this means I only have a week left at home before it's back to college for me. Which means even less time to read. Honestly, going back to college is my biggest worry for this blog because I am afraid that I will get so crazy busy that I won't have time to read and post as much as I would like. But I guess we will see when we get there! Anyhoo, on to the reason we are here: my December wrap up! This month I got two books read which, although it is a very small amount to most people, is pretty good for me since I would consider myself a slow reader. The two books I read were: One Plus One by Jojo Moyes This was a book about an unexpected road trip shared by millionaire, Ed, and his cleaner Jess and her two children, Nicky and Tanzie, to get Tanzie to her Maths Olympiad. I enjoyed this boo...

It's a Book Filled Christmas!

Image
Merry Christmas readers! I completely fell off of the Bookmas day challenges because everything just got crazy, but I thought I would make a post about the books I got for Christmas to round out the Bookmas season! I am so excited about all of the books I received this year and can not wait to dive right into them in 2017! 1. Cinder by Marissa Meyer I have been dying to start this series for so long, but I just never got around to buying the books. But no fear! My cousin gave me Cinder for Christmas this year, and I can't wait to finally start this series. 2. The Unbound by Victoria Schwab Over the summer I read The Archived which is this first book to this series, and I absolutely loved it! I got the book from my library and they didn't have the rest of the books, so I couldn't continue until now. I am so excited to get to continue on in this series! 3. This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab  Finally, I got This Savage Song which is so exciting because I h...

One Plus One Review

Image
Author: Jojo Moyes Pages: 368 Publisher: Penguin Books Rating: ☆☆☆ Synopsis Jess is having a hard time. Her husband has left her and her math-whiz daughter and goth stepson all alone with no help. As they struggle through her daughter, Tanzie, gets an opportunity to participate in a Math Olympiad that could change her life forever. However, Jess has no way of getting there until they are saved my Ed, the tech millionaire that Jess cleans for, in his first selfless act in a very long time. Ed takes on this dysfunctional family before he knows what he is  getting into, but long road trips to Scotland tend to have an effect on the way you learn to love people. My Review I gave this book a 3.5/5 star rating, however I rounded it to 3 stars one good reads and on here since you can't give half stars. I thought this book was a nice story, and I did enjoy it. But, it did not completely blow me away which is why I gave it only 3.5. In my opinion the story was a little sl...

Bookmas Day Four: Top Four Underrated Books of 2016

Day four of Bookmas has arrived! I had to skip out on yesterday, Top Three Most Anticipated Adaptations of 2017, because I have no idea of any adaptations coming out next year. But I am back today with 4 underrated books! These books were not published in 2016, but they were all books that I read in 2016 and really enjoyed. 1. Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson This book is a true story written by Bryan Stevenson about cases that he has tried and clients that he has fought for in this own career. The book illustrates Stevenson's experiences in fighting for rights for men wrongly convicted and put on death row for nothing more than their skin color or their mental capacity. It also highlights cases of children who were convicted for petty crimes but convicted for life with no hope of parole. Finally, it highlights mothers that are put in prison and taken from their children, and the problems of the prison systems in America. This is such a powerful book that I think is very important...

Bookmas Day 2- Top Two YA Debuts of 2016

Image
Hello readers! It is day two of Bookmas, which means it is time to spill my top two YA debuts of this year! Sadly, since I am just  getting into the book community, I didn't know about too many of these this year, so I only have one to share with you. But, the one I did read I really enjoyed! So, my top (and only) YA debut of 2016 is: Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton! This is a YA fantasy book that follows a girl trying to escape her hometown where she is tied down only because she is a girl. She is a great shot and one night at a shoot out in a local bar, she meets a mysterious stranger that she will soon go on an adventure through the desert with and find out who she truly is. I know that synopsis sounds super cheesy and like every other book known to man, but I really loved this story! In the beginning it took me a couple of chapters to get in to it, but once I did I was hooked. There is some magic in this book as well which is where the fantasy elements come in wh...

Bookmas Day 1: Bookmas Tree!

Image
Hello readers! Today is the first day of Bookmas! I am super excited for this to start and to get a lot of reading done over the next 12 days! My bookmas tree is a bit on the smaller side as I don't have a large collection of books because I get a lot of books from the library. It is also a bit messy because I had no idea what I was doing, but nonetheless I tried my best! So, here is my little rendition of the Bookmas tree! I hope that you will participate in Bookmas, and if you have made a bookmas tree leave a link to your blog/youtube video down below and I would love to check it out! Reading Progress Update: So far today I have read 30 pages of One Plus One, but I plan to continue reading today and hopefully get to around 250 today! We will see how this goes. Happy reading and Merry Christmas!

Bookmas TBR

Image
Hello readers! This year as I begin my blogging journey, I thought a fun way to populate the beginnings of the blog would be through participating in  Hailey in Bookland 's 12 Days of Christmas event, #Bookmas! This is a readathon that begins tomorrow, December 13, and there are also video/blog post topics to go along with each day. I am going to try to participate in as many days as I can, beginning with my TBR for this readathon! My TBR for this Bookmas is: ~ One Plus One by Jojo Moyes. I am already 150 pages into this book, so I will be finishing it at the beginning of the readathon.          One Plus One is an adult fiction novel about a single mother struggling to get by with her two children. Her daughter, Tanzie, is a math-whiz and needs to be taken to a Maths Olympiad in order to win enough money to go to the private school that will give her a better education. One problem: Her mother has no money and no way to get her there until a tech ...

Book Blog Newbie Tag

Hello readers! My name is Caitlin, and I am so excited to be starting this blog. I have wanted to have a blog for a while now, so I decided to finally jump in. As I was researching blogs and how to work them, I stumbled across the Book Blog Newbie Tag by  Love and Other Bookish Things ! I thought this would be a fun and great way to introduce myself into the blogging community, so here it goes! 1. Why did you start this blog?     I have always loved to read throughout my life, but I have never really had friends that enjoyed reading as much as I did or wanted to just sit and talk about books that they have read. Because of this, I thought that having a blog where I can share my favorite books and talk about why I loved them so much with other people who love books also would be so awesome! I have also always kinda wanted a blog for some reason, but I never thought about what I would actually talk about until now! 2. What are some fun or unique things you bring to b...
